Temporary Accommodation

South Essex Homes manages ten temporary accommodation buildings (also known as hostels) in the City of Southend with a total number of 91 available rooms. There are 8 additional rooms available to provide refuge to people fleeing abusive relationships.

Places in temporary accommodation are allocated following referral from Southend City Council, CM16+ and YOS, for a range of reasons including homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, rough sleeping, youth offending and young people leaving care.  hostel garden and playground

Temporary Accommodation Officers ensure the facilitation of each building and work with partner agencies in providing individual support from Safe Steps, Social Workers, S.T.A.R.S and Early Help. Early Help works in partnership with other professionals, parents, and carers to intervene early to ensure that children have the best start in life.

The aim is to address problems at the earliest opportunity, before they can escalate, and to enable families to support their children to reach their full potential.

Food donations in low supply

The Temporary Accommodation Service provides temporary and emergency accommodation to homeless families and single people. Sometimes they have no money and no food. We like to keep a stock of some basic foods to give out to people coming into the hostel in a crisis, sometimes during the night or at the weekend.

We would appreciate any donations from members of the public so we can continue to offer help in this way.

We would especially like to receive:

  • Food and Drink - Tea, coffee, sugar, long-life milk or powdered milk, pasta, rice, tinned potatoes, baked beans, soups, tinned meats, tuna, vegetarian options.
  • Toiletries - e.g. soap, shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste and brushes.
  • Baby items - e.g. nappies, bottles, baby milk, baby food.

If you can help now or on a regular basis it would be much appreciated.

Please email sehcustomerservices@seh.southend.gov.uk or phone 01702 212730 for more information - or you can take any donations to Chaucer House, SS2 5HG.

Many thanks for your contribution.
